What is SDS (Spam Detection System)?
SDS, short for Spam Detection System, is our intelligent comment protection service designed to help maintain the quality, safety, and relevance of discussions across our platform.
SDS operates in the background as an AI-powered moderation tool that continuously analyzes comments and user-generated content for signs of spam, malicious behavior, and content that violates community trust.
How SDS Works
SDS is powered by advanced machine learning algorithms trained on thousands of spam patterns and abusive comment histories. It performs periodic automated scans of the comment sections on all public-facing pages, using a multilayered detection strategy:
- Textual Pattern Recognition
SDS reviews the language structure, frequency of certain phrases, and keyword combinations commonly associated with spam or bot activity. - Behavioral Flagging
It monitors for suspicious posting behaviors such as:- Excessive link-dropping
- Keyword stuffing
- Copy-paste spam from known sources
- Bot-like repetition
- Cross-Reference with Global Spam Databases
SDS actively checks comment content against real-time spam signature databases, identifying matches with previously flagged content across the web. - Heuristic Scoring
Every comment is given a spam-likelihood score. If the score exceeds a certain threshold, the comment is automatically flagged and hidden from public view.
Important: SDS May Flag False Positives
While SDS is a powerful and adaptive system, it’s not perfect. Because it operates based on language probability and match scoring, it can sometimes mistakenly flag legitimate comments if they:
- Contain specific word combinations historically linked to spam
- Include certain promotional or financial terms
- Use unusual formatting or URL structures
If this happens, please understand it is not a personal action. No human manually flagged your comment — the system made an automated judgment based on patterns.
What SDS Does Not Do
- SDS does not delete your comments
Flagged comments are hidden, not removed. They are still visible to admins and moderators for manual review and potential restoration. - SDS does not ban users
A flagged comment does not affect your account status or access to the platform.
How to Avoid Being Flagged
To reduce the chances of your comment being hidden:
- Avoid using excessive links or suspicious phrases.
- Do not copy-paste identical messages repeatedly.
- Refrain from using all caps, strange symbols, or misleading formats.
- Use clear, relevant, and respectful language.
Behind the Scenes: AI in Action
SDS uses a continuously evolving AI model that learns from:
- Community feedback
- Updated spam reports
- Moderator actions and appeals
The AI adapts its filters over time, improving accuracy while maintaining performance across different content types and discussion environments.
